Meaning:
Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the
State legislature, whose members represents
the people of the State, as they are directly
elected by the people.
Body: Temporary body
Election: Direct election
Members: Maximum members are 500, while
minimum members are 60.
Minimum age for Membership: 25 years
Presiding Officer: Speaker
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL (VIDHAN PARISHAD)
Meaning:
Legislative Council is the upper house of
Indian States, which follows a bicameral
legislature, whose members are partly elected
and partly nominated.
Body: Permanent body
Election: Indirect election
Members: One third of the total members of Vidhan
Sabha, but it should not be less than 40.
Minimum age for Membership: 30 years
Presiding Officer: Chairman

Vidhan Sabha, but it should not be less than 40.
Minimum age for Membership: 30 years

Functions of the Chief Minister
Creation of State Executive:
After elections the Council of Ministers are
appointed keeping in mind various regions and
social groups.
If no majority all the constituent parties get a
place in the alliance.
Distribution of portfolios:
The Chief ministers distribute the portfolios
keeping in mind political experience, public
opinion etc.
Coordination between ministries
/Departments:
Responsibility of effective administration and
to resolve conflicts between the departments.
