Objectives and tools:

Let us begin with a simple question. What do we want the kids to take away from the chapter when they step out of the classroom?

We want them to understand that:

  • We have the duty, right and moral obligation to choose the executors of our constitution, i.e., our ministers.
  • The powers in the hands of the Council of Ministers are many and we have to be active citizens and hold them accountable.
  • Civil Servants too have a noble role to play in the working of the government machinery.

Listing these points down is a useful way of orienting the students’ learning and our own preparation.

The tools at our disposal:

To make this learning come alive, we have:

  • A lesson progression plan for your convenience.
  • A Power Point Presentation embedded with audio and video files and questions for discussion.
  • Three teachers’ handouts describing unique class activities.
  • One movie on the Magna Carta and the emergence of the Parliament.
  • Two class handouts or notes
