A note to the teacher

Objectives and tools:

Let us begin with our favourite question. What do we want the children to retain from this chapter when they step out of the classroom?

  • The world is one, giant connected village. Our dependence on one another is a force for good. We have to be mindful of our collective impact now. On each other and the environment.
  • This connection is made possible due to advancements in communication technology.
  • A basic idea of globalization.
  • A world so connected is bound to have some problems, but those that can be overcome.
  • There are global organizations that have emerged to help the world become a better place.

We have explored the concepts of interdependence and interconnectedness in chapter 9 in detail. Your students should be familiar with these now. This chapter is about extending that understanding to an international level.

The teacher is now a facilitator, asking exciting questions and using innovative resources and activities to help the student take in charge of their own learning.

To make this come alive, the tools at our disposal are:

  • Movies on:
  • - Understanding the United Nations

  • Activities suitable for a class of 20-60 kids
  • Communication Kalakaar

    - Swacch Bharat

    - Teach the teacher

  • Class handouts with tasks and activities
  • Teachers’ handouts
  • Worksheets
  • A unit plan for the teachers makes this all come together and provides a step-by-step guide to progressing with this chapter in the classroom.
