Watch video no. 3 about empathy from the resource bank before doing this exercise.

Activity: Empathy is the answer

Write the word “empathy” on the board. Ask the kids what they understood about empathy from the video they just saw. Discuss with them that empathy is the key to understanding one another with compassion is the key to connection. If we lived in a more connected, understanding, responsible world, terrorism will soon have no place in our lives.

This exercise is about empathy and kindness.

Ask the class to recall any act of kindness they might have done in the last week towards anyone. Use some time for sharing stories. Ask what made them do this kind thing. Were they empathising or sympathising? Then, ask everyone to stand up.

Their task is to do a kind and empathetic thing for the person on their right. That person must do a kind thing for the person on their right and two other people who are not in the class. The same applies to everyone else, and the eventually the class will be a part of a chain of kindness.

Essentially, everyone must do something kind for a person in the class and two other people outside the school ecosystem. The gift you get is the joy in your heart.

You can document your acts of kindness and put them on the class wall or remain anonymous, whatever you please.
